Our first AMCT meeting will be on Thursday, September 1st at 8 PM in REC 255. As tradition mandates, there will be free Layne’s for all in attendance. The meeting will mostly be informational. The tentative agenda is as follows:
1) Introduction to the AMCT
2) Fall 2016 MTB Season
3) Elections for 2016 Road Secretary
4) New Kit and Sponsor Discussion
5) Questions and AMCT Gear Sale
As some of you already know, our first mountain bike race (Camp Eagle!) is coming up the weekend of September 3-4. Our Mountain Bike VP, Robert Chrostowski, has sent out the information for our first race. If you have any questions, feel free to email him at .
As a reminder, you must be a dues-paying member to race. You can pay your dues at the first meeting with either cash or check. The cost is $100 for the year (or $50 for the semester if you are a senior graduating in December).
We hope to see you all on Thursday!
I’m happy to announce that the Texas A&M Cycling Team has partnered with Bike Barn as our title sponsor for the 2016-2017 academic year! It’s been a long road getting here and a lot of work has gone into this from both Bike Barn and the AMCT, but I think everyone will be happy with the end result. For current members, our new partnership agreement includes:
+ 20% off labor at Bike Barn
+ 15% off parts and accessories at Bike Barn
+ Twice a year discounted team orders from Specialized for bikes and components
+ Newly redesigned Castelli kits for the AMCT, as well as replica kits that will be sold in all Bike Barn stores
+ Race day support at AMCT-hosted races and promotional consideration from Bike Barn
+ Discounted custom bike fits
+ In store events to help build team skills and knowledge
For those of you who haven’t visited the College Station branch of Bike Barn, I highly recommend stopping by sometime. We’ve been extremely impressed with their community involvement, hosting group rides and partnering with and supporting local businesses. A lot of the guys working there are Aggies and one of the owners of Bike Barn is an old Ag. They have a strong sense of community and we’re excited to begin our new relationship.
We’re aware that this is a break from tradition, but a significant amount of time and thought has gone into this decision. There’s a lot of love for Aggieland Cycling here at the AMCT, but after spending the better part of 6 months talking with Aggieland, Bike Barn, current AMCT members, and AMCT officers (both past and present!), we’ve come to the realization that this is the best move for the team. If you want to discuss the reasoning in more detail feel free to shoot me an email. Otherwise, I ask you to help me in welcoming Bike Barn to the AMCT family!

The next team meeting will be Thursday, April 7th, at 8 PM in REC 255. On the agenda for this meeting is the planning for the final two races of road season and officer elections for the 2016-2017 school year. Everyone is invited! It is never too late to join the team; if you want to learn more about Texas A&M Cycling, come to this meeting and let us know!
The February 4th meeting was the first of the spring semester. After an appetizer of ChipsAhoy! cookies, the first order of business was an introduction of the team to several new people. They were told about what we do and instructed to join the team’s listserv (on the right hand side of this page under “AMCT E-mail”). Next, an election to fill the position of President was held. Two members, Clayton Niemietz and Eames Bennett ran for the position. After a rigorous town-hall style debate moderated by our very own Garrett “Anderson Cooper” Davidson, Eames Bennett was elected President for the remainder of the 2015-2016 academic year. No concession speech was given. Congratulations Eames! Next, the ride schedule for the upcoming months was nailed down. This can be found under “Rides”. It was noted that upon the arrival of Daylight Savings Time, we will all wonder why DST still exists and also that the ride schedule may very well change. Finally, a discussion was had on the upcoming race season. When the officers know more about the schedule and status of these races, it will be sent out on the Listserv. With nothing left to hash out and no cookies remaining, the meeting was adjourned.
The next team meeting is March 3rd at 8pm in REC 255. As always, it’s never too late to join the team. See you there.
